  • Home / Fundraise / RAINI PRIMARY SCHOOL…

INTRODUCTION

In the pursuit of quality education for every child, the availability of basic learning essentials cannot be understated. Yet, in many public schools across Kenya, the scarcity of proper classroom furniture remains a stark reality. As a beacon of hope, our club has taken a stand to address this pressing issue through the Projects Committee.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

•Desks are a basic need for any school to support learning, thereby it is hugely a mandate of the government of Kenya to provide these essential services to public schools. As a gap, a good percentage of public schools lack access to proper classroom esssentials and when provided they do not cater for the schoolpopulation. •

•A desk sends signal to pupils that studying is underway- this supports concentration and focus. In Kenya, local public primary schools do not have enough desks to meet their growing population especially now with the addition of junior secondary school.a. As a result, the Rotary club of Gachie through its projects committee has identified glaring gaps in a number of schools within Kiambaa Sub County in Kiambu County. •

• Except for very few schools, pupils are expected to share a desk for 3 pupils as 5 pupils. Some of the desks are too small for the upper primary school pupils who are very big and they end up taking a desk per pupil which was meant for 3 pupils.

Current desks – writing area
Current desks – look and feel.
Current desks – height and no storage space

THEORY OF CHANGE

•RC Gachie in its request for funding is proposing to provide desks to one of the schools in Kiambaa sub county. The proposed project will provide 90 desks and chairs to Raini Primary School  to help reduce the pressure on sharing desks and help the pupils learn more comfortably and hence improve on their performance overall.

BUDGET & APPROACH

School population: 470 pupils

Proposed Desks: 90 desks

Cost per desk: Ksh 3000

Target Amount: 300,000 ( Miscelleneous included)

Approach: Provide new desks, make sure they are of appropriate height suitable for even taller pupils, ensure wider writing space and end goal is to reduce the number of pupils sharing a desk to only 3 pupils per desk

Proposed desks- width (writing area) & height
Proposed desks- look and feel with the storage compartment.

TIMELINE

We target to handover the desks to the school by 2nd week of June.
